In Pink Floyd’s “The
Wall”, there is a much deeper meaning to the music video than what meets the
eye. There’s a lot of controversy about what is displayed in the music video,
with things such as the kids falling into a meat grinder and the masks that the
children were wearing. In my opinion, the masks symbolized the way that the
children were treated. They were all treated the same, all were expected to
meet the same standards, and were just forced to live their life exactly the
same as their classmates. They are treated as one but not in the good way. With
the meat grinder, it basically is what happens to us within the educational
system. The children’s own thoughts and own way of learning is pushed aside as
the same fate meets all. And that is what the meat grinder is compared to; all
of the kids turning out to be the same thing, or the same “product” when
referring to the meat grinder. Basically, the education kids are receiving is
messed up. And that is why all of the children acted the same and ended up in
the same fate; everyone is expected to learn the same, act the same, and get
the same grades while in school. Those are two of my personal opinions on what
the music video for “The Wall” by Pink Floyd is trying to symbolize.
